Ginger, Turmeric & Citrus Tea Cubes

Ginger, Turmeric & Citrus Tea Cubes

Recipe by Rocsi, Nutritionist specialising in Menstrual Health

A warm cup of tea is one of the simplest pleasures of colder weather, and these homemade tea cubes make it even easier. Fresh ginger, turmeric, and citrus are blended with water, frozen in an ice cube tray, then dropped into a mug of freshly boiled water whenever you fancy a cup. There are three combinations to choose from, all ready to make ahead.

Turmeric gets its golden colour from curcumin, which the body absorbs poorly on its own. That is why the black pepper matters. In one study with human volunteers, piperine from black pepper increased the bioavailability of curcumin by around 2,000%. Ginger contains compounds such as gingerols and shogaols, which have been studied for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, although most of the research so far comes from laboratory and animal studies.

Water goes into every stage of this recipe, from blending the cubes to the hot water poured over them. AquaTru-filtered water gives each cup a fresh, clean taste, so the ginger, turmeric, and citrus come through clearly.
