Health
- What contaminants does AquaTru remove?
  - AquaTru has been thouroughly tested by IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials www.iapmo.org). IAPMO is an independent testing laboratory whose mission is to protect the public and continually improve the safety, performance and reliability of plumbing and mechanical systems.
    AquaTru has been tested and certified to the NSF/ANSI Standards 42,53,58, and 401 by IAPMO for the reduction of the substances listed in the performance data sheet.

- How does AquaTru handle the bacteria in the filters?
  - In some cases a few bacteria can remain in the Pre-Filter (1-2). The prefilter is specially designed to filter the bacterias out of your tap water. To keep your filtered water perfectly clean and free of bacteria, we recommend replacing the Pre-Filter (1-2) every 6 months. The AquaTru will indicate when it’s time to replace the filter.
- Does Reverse Osmosis Filtration remove the minerals as well?
  - Yes, reverse osmosis filtration does remove some minerals, which are good for you in certain amounts. However, the amount of minerals in your tapwater is negligible. You can get all the minerals you need from your food.
    If you do want those extra minerals, you can add these to your water easily. We reccommend AquaTru Perfect Minerals. Adding this to your water will give you a wide range of minerals, without the downside of the harmful compounds that are in your tapwater.
- Is the filtered AquaTru water alkaline?
  - AquaTru water is close to neutral, around 7.0 on the pH scale. If you want to make your water alkaline, we recommend AquaTru Perfect Minerals. Add these natural minerals to your filterd water in order to make it alkaline (8pH).
- What minerals are in AquaTru Perfect Minerals?
  - With these minerals, you add a lot of micronutrients that make your water alkaline. Filtered AquaTru water is close to neutral, with a ph level around 7.0.
    These minerals come from the Great Salt Lake in Utah. The nutrient rich water contains more than 72 minerals and trace elements, including magnesium, zinc and calcium. It’s 8 to 10 times more concentrated then regular sea water. Even if you don’t have the AquaTru water filter, these minerals will improve the quality of your regular tap water. However, you will still expose yourself to the harmful contaminants in your tap water if you do not filter your water before adding the minerals.
- Does AquaTru remove fluoride?
  - AquaTru removes more than 93% of the fluoride in your tap water. Fluoride is damaging to our health. Higher levels of fluoride are linked to negative effects on brain function and an increase in the chance of bone fractures and bone aches.
- Is the plastic used in the AquaTru water tanks safe?
  - AquaTru’s water tanks are made of Tritan® plastic, which is a high quality plastic. It’s BPA and BPS free and is used in other health products, like the Vitamix. Tritan® has been tested by universities and independent laboratories. The results show that it’s free from any harmful compounds.
- Can the AquaTru filter water from natural waters (rivers, lakes, etc.)?
  - AquaTru has been developed to remove contaminants from tap water that is bacterialogically safe. Although the AquaTru will probably filter all the harmful bacteria out of the natural water as well, we can not guarantee this. The AquaTru has not been tested and designed for water that comes from rivers, lakes etc.
Product specifications
- What’s the difference between the AquaTru units and other water filters?
  - AquaTru isn’t the only waterfilter on the market. Therefore we would like to explain the difference between the different types of filters.
    
    Waterfilters can be divided into five categories.
    
    Pitcher filters
    A pitcher filter is a pitcher with (often) just one carbonfilter inside. The filtered water that you get from these pitchers often tastes a bit better/smoother than tapwater. When it comes to the quality of your water, it’s a different story. In most cases, no more than 15% of the harmful compounds in your tap water are removed.
    
    Bottle filters
    The name says it all: it’s a bottle, with a filter inside. In most cases, this will be a low quality carbon filter. Just like the pitcher filters, it will improve the taste, but doesn’t do much when it comes to water quality.
    There are also bottles that use UV filtration. This means that there’s a UV lamp inside, which can be turned on to remove bacteria in your water (and your bottle). This form of filtration can be very effective against bacteria, but it doesn’t remove chemicals, pesticides, heavy metals and medicine residues that are also present in your water.
    
    Built-in systems
    These are installed on your water supply (for example under your sink). Most of the times you will need a plumber to perform the task.
    These systems vary in price between €500 and €3000, excluding installation and maintenance costs. On average, they use 4,67 liters of tapwater to get 1 liter of clean water. That’s 3,67 liters of water down the drain. On average, these kind of filters remove around 70% of the harmful contaminants from your tap water.
    
    Gravity filters
    There are some gravity filters that show some good results when it comes down to improving the water quality. Installation and maintenance aren’t much of a hassle in most cases either.
    There’s one big drawback: they tend to filter really slow. It can take a couple of hours before you have just one liter of filtered water. In the long run this very often causes people not to use their filter anymore because they don't have any filtered water available when they need it.
    
    Powered filters
    These filters have a lot in common with gravity filters:
    
    - They are easy to install
    - They are easy to maintain
    - They can improve your water quality significantly
    
    Where gravity filters rely on gravity (which is why it takes them more time to filter), powered filters are driven by an electrical pump. This means that they can filter quicker and more accurately than gravity filters. Overall, powered filters don’t use a lot of electricity to get this done, but it’s always good to check, just in case.
    
    AquaTru is a powered filtration system. The unique thing about AquaTru (next to being very easy to use and maintain) is it’s four stage filtration system, which has been tested by an independent third party, IAPMO (International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials) This is an independent testing laboratory whose mission is to protect the public and continually improve the safety, performance and reliability of plumbing and mechanical systems.
    
    AquaTru has been tested and certified to the NSF/ANSI Standards 42,53,58, and 401 by IAPMO for the reduction of the substances. The test results say it all: up to more than 99% of all harmful contaminants were removed by the AquaTru.

- Does the €449 AquaTru Classic/Carafe package contain the filters and water tanks?
  - Yes. Both the AquaTru water filters comes as a complete set, including the filters and watertanks. It includes everything you need to start filtering your own pure water.
- How long do the filters last and how much does it cost to replace them?
  - The lifespan differs for each filter, since they each have different functions.
    
    - (1-2) Pre-Carbon Filter: replacement after 6 months (€30,-)
    - (3) Reverse Osmosis Filter: replacement after 2 years or 5000L, whichever comes first (€65,-)
    - (4) VOC Carbon Filter: replacement after 1 year or 3000L: whichever comes first (€45,-)
    
    This means that you will spend an average of €137,50 a year, on the replacement of filters. This comes down to €0,38 a day.
- How do I know when to replace my filters?
  - AquaTru Classic: You don’t have to keep track of your filters, AquaTru will do that for you. While filtering your water, the lights on the display will cycle through the different filters to show which filter is in use. When a filter needs to be replaced, the filter number will remain lit up on the front of the display to indicate that it is time to change the filter. The filtration process will be stopped.
    
    After you’ve placed a new filter, you can press the ‘filter reset’ button on the back of the device, to let AquaTru know that you have placed a new filter. The filtration process will then continue as before. For more information on how to correctly replace your filters, please take a look at our manual.
  - AquaTru Carafe: When it's time to replace a specific filter, the corresponding indicator light will illuminate with the number of the filter to be replaced (1-2, 3, or 4). It's then a matter of clicking out the old filter and clicking in the new one. Afterward, press the 'filter reset' button so that the AquaTru Carafe recognizes the new filter has been inserted (refer to our user manual for more details). The AquaTru Carafe will then resume filtration automatically. Note: The device itself indicates when you need to replace a filter.
- How fast does AquaTru filter?
  - AquaTru Classic: AquaTru can filter a full tank of tapwater (4 liters) within 12 to 15 minutes. The filtration time depends on how polluted your tapwater is. After 12 to 15 minutes you will have 3 liters of pure and clean water.
  - AquaTru Carafe: AquaTru purifies a full carafe of tap water (1.9 liters) in 10 to 15 minutes. This timing depends on the hardness of the water in your region. You'll then have approximately 2 liters of filtered water.
- How much water can AquaTru hold?
  - The AquaTru Classic has two tanks: 1. The tapwater tank can hold 4 liters of water. And 2. The tank for filtered water can hold 3 liters of water
  - The AquaTru Carafe has two tanks as well: 1. The tapwater tank can hold 3 liters of water. And 2. The tank for filtered water can hold 1.9 liters of water.

Usage
- How do I clean the AquaTru and are the tanks dishwasher proof?
  - AquaTru Classic: Both water tanks are not dishwasher proof. It is therefore important to manually clean the tanks on a regular basis.
    
    Some tips to make cleaning as easy as possible:
    
    - The filters are automatically rinsed after each filtration. The substances that are filtered out of the water, remain in the residual water of the tap water tank. In the tap water tank a (white) edge forms over time. This is caused by the lime and the harmful substances that the AquaTru has filtered from the tap water. The residual can easily be removed with cleaning vinegar, but you can also use detergent for this.
    - Use a soft sponge or dishwashing brush to prevent scratches. This keeps the tanks ‘scratchless’ and undamaged.
    - Clean the tap water tank regularly, but at least once every three weeks. As soon as a clear deposit / edge is visible in the tank, it is time to clean the tank. It depends on the quality of the tap water how fast this edge becomes visible.
    - Clean the tank for filtered water according to your own judgment. In principle, no bacteria end up in this tank because the water that ends up in this tank is filtered by AquaTru. However, no environment is 100% sterile. It is therefore advisable to occasionally clean the tank for filtered water. You can easily do this with some detergent.
    - Ensure that you rinse the tank very thoroughly if you use soap. If soap remains remain in the tank, this can affect the taste of your water.
  - AquaTru Carafe: The tap water carafe is not dishwasher safe. The glass carafe is, but its glass lids are not. Therefore, it's important to manually clean the carafes regularly. Here are some tips to make cleaning as easy as possible: After each filtration, the filters are automatically rinsed clean. The substances filtered from the water are left behind in the residual water in the tap water carafe. Over time, a (white) residue may form at the edge of the tap water carafe. This is caused by the lime and harmful substances that AquaTru has filtered from the tap water. This residue is easiest to remove with white vinegar, but you can also use dish soap. Use a soft sponge or dish brush to prevent scratches and keep the carafes looking nice and intact. Clean the tap water carafe regularly, at least once every three weeks. Once a clear residue/edge becomes visible in the carafe, it's time to clean it. The speed at which this residue becomes visible depends on the quality of the tap water. Clean the carafe for filtered water at your own discretion. In principle, no bacteria enter this carafe since the water that enters it has been filtered by AquaTru. However, no environment is entirely sterile. Therefore, it's advisable to occasionally clean the carafe for filtered water. You can easily do this with a little dish soap. Ensure that you rinse the carafe for filtered water thoroughly after washing. If any soap residues remain in the carafe, they could affect the taste of your water.

- Does AquaTru use electricity?
  - Yes, AquaTru uses about €2 of electricity per year.
- How much does AquaTru weigh?
  - The AquaTru Classic weighs 7.3kg.
  - The AquaTru Carafe weighs: 4.08 kg (empty pitcher and lid: 0.77 kg)

- How big is AquaTru?
  - These are AquaTru's Classic dimensions:

- Can I buy an extra watertank so I can put one in the fridge?
  - AquaTru Classic: Yes you can! When you prefer to have your water nice and cold, you can put one tank in the fridge and place the other one on the AquaTru. This way you will always have your water the way you like it.
    
    There is already one filtered watertank included in the AquaTru package of €430, you don’t need to buy an extra one if you don’t want a extra tank to cool your water.
  - AquaTru Carafe: Absolutely! If you enjoy drinking chilled water, it's a great idea to purchase an additional water carafe for your refrigerator. The carafe is conveniently removable, and with its dimensions (H. 20.5 cm, W. 12.8 cm, D. 19 cm), it fits nicely in the fridge. An additional advantage is that while one carafe is being refilled with pure filtered water, the other can be cooling in your fridge. You only need one tap water carafe. Both carafes are, of course, included when you purchase a new AquaTru system. Although highly unlikely, accidents can happen – for instance, dropping a filled carafe on a hard floor. If, for any reason, your tap water carafe breaks, you can also order a replacement carafe from our webshop.
- Is it possible to order a larger watertank?
  - AquaTru Classic: Not at the moment. We chose for a tank containing a maximum of three liters, because it would be easy to move around, while still holding a good amount of water. It’s also possible to order a second filtered watertank, so that you can have two full tanks at all times.
  - AquaTru Carafe: At the moment, no. AquaTru is designed for user convenience. We have chosen a 2-liter glass carafe for filtered water to ensure it can be easily lifted and moved (for instance, to your refrigerator). The good news is that AquaTru filters water so quickly that you can easily and rapidly produce multiple pitchers of filtered water. For instance, you can order an additional carafe for filtered water, such as our Carafe Infuser to make delicious drinks. This way, you can ensure you always have enough filtered water. For example, one carafe with filtered water can be chilled in the fridge while you use the other to make new filtered water.
